Jacques Tits

Jacques Tits in May 2008 Jacques Tits (; born 12 August 1930 in Uccle) is a Belgium-born French mathematician who works on group theory and incidence geometry. He introduced Tits buildings, the Tits alternative, the Tits group, and the Tits metric. His works on algebraic groups with Armand Borel are also well-known and the theory of buildings though brought great understanding in linear, finite and other classes of groups, is now a powerful tool for geometers.
