520 |a As part of the regional project to harmonize external sector statistics, a technical assistance mission on balance of payments, international investment position, and secondary income visited the Central Bank of Costa Rica (BCCR) during October 13–23, 2014. Considering the progress that the BCCR has already made in the compilation of external sector statistics, the objective of the technical assistance mission was to work together with the External Sector Statistics Area staff and the data-producing agencies to promote an understanding of data requirements for external sector statistics. Statistical reporting is not mandated by any law, and for this reason the BCCR must work especially with the private sector on voluntary data reporting. The short-term expert provided advice on methodological and practical issues in recording entries in the secondary income account, the Coordinated Direct Investment Survey (CDIS), the Coordinated Portfolio Investment Survey (CPIS), and other topics requested by the BCCR. The mission discussed a number of issues with the authorities, including dissemination of Tables 1 and 2 of the Quarterly External Debt Statistics for the World Bank, recording accrued interest on public external debt, securities holdings by residents and nonresidents, and estimates in the travel account
