Summary:Compulsory education in Greece begins at the age of four when children enroll in preprimary school. Primary education follows with a six-year study program. Secondary education includes two stages. The first is mandatory and is a three-year study program in a Gymnasium school (lower secondary education). The second stage is optional and corresponds to high school (upper secondary education). It includes three years of studies in a day school (general education in Geniko Lykeio and vocational education in Epaggelmatiko Lykeio) and four in an evening school (Esperino Lykeio), or two years in a vocational school (Epaggelmatiki Scholi). In general and vocational schools Lykeio pupils enroll at the age of fifteen, and in vocational schools enroll at the age of sixteen
