Summary:The present research redefines the literature of the Renaissance: The importance of Aristotelian poetics is being downgraded in favor of innovative - astonishing - literary approaches. The paradigm that has been in force for a long time, that the Italian Renaissance was dominated by classical Aristotelian literary theory, is thus significantly differentiated. On the basis of the analysis of amazement - a term that Aristotle and Plato placed at the beginning of scientific and metaphysical thought and which became a central constitutional and unique selling point of literature during the Italian Renaissance - it is shown that moments of novelty and surprise, yes, the astonishing innovatio on all levels that decisively shaped the literature of the Renaissance
