Summary:The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requested that AHRQ commission an evidence report to inform CMS of the evidence regarding ultrasound-based monitoring of cardiac output (Doppler). This is currently listed as a Category II procedure (clinical reliability and efficacy not proven), which is "considered experimental and should not be covered at this time". Accordingly, on May 9th 2006, AHRQ, in consultation with CMS and ECRI, issued a Statement of Work (SOW) contracting ECRI to prepare an evidence report on this topic
