Summary: | This report evaluates the efficacy and risks of adverse events of commonly used pharmaceuticals for osteoarthritis, painful diabetic neuropathy and pain from vertebral compression fractures in older persons. It also evaluates the risk in older persons for acute renal failure and gastrointestinal bleeding and ulcers with NSAIDs and opioids and the risk of fall. In addition, it evaluates experiences of care for older persons with pain. Finally, it identifies health-economic and ethical aspects and conducts a practice survey regarding drug prescription patterns in this area |
