Description
Summary:The theme for Fjordantologien 2019 is models, more specifically scientific models. The anthology consists of 22 chapters, with an introductory chapter elaborating the theme. Scientific models can be distinguished from other models in terms of their logical composition. For this volume, the editors have identified seven different types of scientific models that are examined in the contributions: conceptual, iconic, analogue, symbolic, phenomenological, empirical/statistical and empirical. Scientific models serve several purposes, which can be subdivided into four categories: descriptive, explanatory, predictive and supervisory. The contributions to this volume examine phenomena from a range of different perspectives, disciplines, types of models and purposes. The volume is the result of the 2018 Fjord conference in Ålesund, Norway, with 100 participants from the "fjord region" on the Western coast of Norway.
