Description
Summary:Prevention of breast cancer among women at increased risk for the disease has become a focus of research and is receiving considerable media and public attention. This report evaluates available data on the efficacy, safety, and quality-of-life outcomes of preventive mastectomy for breast cancer and summarizes findings of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) in their assessment of two drugs - tamoxifen citrate (Nolvadex) and raloxifene hydrochloride (Evista). This assessment refers only to breast cancer in women. Although breast cancer does occur in men, data show that breast cancer occurs approximately 150 times more frequently in women
