Description
Item Description:'Extrait du voyage fait aux Terres Australes' printed in France; 'Extrait d'un journal de navigation' printed in Scotland, probably by Murray & Cochran in Edinburgh. - Advertisement in 'Two voyages' implies publication of that part in 1773, but the preface to the collection indicates 1775 as the true date of first publication of that part. -. - Contains, after preface, four parts with separate titlepages or drop-head titles reading: 'Two voyages made in 1698, 1699 and 1700 by Dr. Edmund Halley', 'Extrait du voyage fait aux Terres Australes, les années 1738 & 1739, par Mr. Des Loziers Bouvet' , 'Extrait d'un journal de navigation pour un voyage de la Mer du Sud, fait par le S. Ducloz Guyot de St Malo' , and 'Journal of the winds and weather, and degrees of heat and cold by the thermometer, at Falkland Islands'. - English Short Title Catalog, T74448. - Reproduction of original from British Library. - Sabin, 18336. - The four separate parts printed in or before 1775 (evidence from the preface). - Titlepages of 'Two voyages' and 'Extrait d'un journal de navigation' printed in Scotland, use a fount of type very similar to that used for the roughly contemporaneous issue by Dalrymple of the memorial 'Senor' by Arias , the colophon of which specifies Murray & Cochran of Edinburgh as printers. - With a half-title
