Monumentum Ære Perennius That the public and the world may know to whom this country and its posterity will for ever stand indebted for their deliverance from political death, endangered by a system of despotism, infamy and corruption, the following list is most humbly an gratefully dedicated to the eternal honour of two hundred and forty independent members of Parliament, who attended in their places in the House of Commons, on Wednesday, 20th March, 1782, on notice being given by the Earl of Surrey, of his intention to move a resolution for the dismission of the ministry; which question was very prudently averted by the official declaration of the Premier, Lord North, "that they had, one and all, that day resigned."
