Item Description:Advertised in the Massachusetts gazette and Boston post-boy, Oct. 18-25, 1773. - Advertisement for printing work and books for sale by Mills and Hicks, p. 32. - Drake, M. Almanacs, 3230. - English Short Title Catalog, W22544. - Evans, 13074. - Parentheses substituted for square brackets in imprint. - Reproduction of original from British Library. - Some copies illustrated with a copperplate engraving, others with a woodcut. Both are signed by Joseph Callender. - The author, whose preface is signed "Isaac Bickerstaff," was Benjamin West. Cf. Nichols, C.L. "Notes on the almanacs of Massachusetts." Proceedings of the American Antiquarian Society, n.s. v. 22 (1912): 34-35, and the Dictionary of American biography. The eclipse notes are identical, and the calendar page notes practically so, with those in West's The New-England almanack, or Lady's and gentleman's diary, for 1774 (Providence). The calculations for the moon's place, rising, and setting, are identical, though the rest vary, being for Boston rather than Providence
