Description
Item Description:Anonymous. By Oliver Goldsmith. - English Short Title Catalog, N49108. - Reproduction of original from Huntington Library. - Roscoe, A199 (2). - Scott, T., Oliver Goldsmith, 1928, p.140. - This is believed to be the first state of the first edition; Temple Scott and Todd describe it as very rare, Scott considering it a "trial" state. - This issue lacks the half-title and has a 7 line dedication on p.[3], but the text is the same as in other first edition states (Todd). - Todd, W., 'Quadruple imposition: an account of Goldsmith's Traveller' in Studies in bibliography. VII, 1955, pp.110-111. Variant 1. - Williams' description of it as "Issue A" mis-describes the title, but he had not seen it. - Williams, I., Seven XVIIIth century bibliographies, 1968, pp.134-5
